Panthers, Black Horses Notch Diamond Wins, Horde Tennis Wins Again

Staff Writer Rick Lyons:  The Hoosick Falls softball team played yesterday after dropping a tough 11 inning decision to Stillwater on Thursday.  Friday afternoon their opponent was Tamarac, undefeated in league play at 4-0.  Not wanting to be saddled with successive Wasaren losses Panther hurler Rachel Quackenbush threw her second no-hitter of the week leading the Falls to a 2-1 win over the Bengals.

Quackenbush who no-hit Cambridge on Tuesday and took the loss Thursday against Stillwater despite striking out 19 and allowing but two hits in 11 innings, handcuffed Tamarac on this afternoon striking out 11 and walking just one.  Tamarac scored in the second frame on two Hoosick Falls errors taking the early 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning Chelsea Steven’s infield hit plated Rachel Pine and the teams were deadlocked at 1-1.

Things would stay that way until the sixth, when the Panther’s Sierra Bailey flared a single to short right, scoring Carsen Williams with the game-winner.

With the victory Hoosick Falls improves to 4-1, 6-2, and with the loss Tamarac goes to 4-1, 4-3 on the year.

The Schuylerville baseball team has had a nice week for themselves.  On Tuesday they got past previously unbeaten Greenwich, Thursday they easily dispatched Granville and yesterday won their third straight  with a 5-4 victory over Fonda.

Playing in the first round of the Gloversville Tournament the Black Horse’s Pat Castle doubled home Austin Anderson in top of frame seven and Schuylerville hung on to defeat the always tough Braves of Fonda.

Jake Petralia had a pair of two-run singles and picked up the pitching win as well for Schuylerville who goes to 2-2, 3-2 with the W.

The Black Horses will play Gloversville in the championship game today at 12:30 at Husky Field.

The Granville Golden Horde swept all five singles matches leading to a 5-2 victory over Schuylerville in Adirondack League tennis action.

Joey Lea, Sam McDermott, Garrett Brown, Till Rugge and Ian Bixby all notched W’s for the Horde who ran their record to 5-0 for the season.
